Life in Lausanne…

We have been here about a month now and thought it might be interesting to share some of what life is like for us here.  We are staying at the YWAM (Youth With a Mission) base here.  On  the campus here there is a large chalet (which has a kitchen and cafeteria, a cafe, classrooms and meeting rooms, several floors of student housing.  There is also another older building they call Canaan that has a couple more classrooms, a kitchen, and several floors with dorms/living spaces.

They have an office building (where Ben works in the Communications office).

They just built 3 three story buildings with staff housing (Ben lives in one of those) and two other buildings that have classrooms and staff housing.

They also have a hospitality house where they house speakers that are here to teach in schools.  Then there is another older building that has three apartments in it called Clos Meleze.  We are staying in a one bedroom apartment in that building on the top floor.  There is a kitchenette and dining table with four chairs and a bathroom with a shower.  it is about three times the size of our motorhome…so you could say we are living large! Our window is the top right one.

When we look out that window, this is our view…Ben lives in the yellow house.  His window is on the second floor to the left.

This is the view out our other window…we look down to the chalet…and have had some pretty sunrises.

We eat our breakfast in our apartment and then lunches and dinner we have in the cafeteria.  Meals are served family style on the tables because of covid regulations. We enjoy getting to know the other staff and students.  There are people here from all over the world.  I think there were 38 nations represented.

The rhythm of our days looks like waking up and having breakfast.  Then Darrel gets on his work stuff (he still works full time from over here and then volunteers to help with other projects on top of that). His mornings are usually very quiet because we are 8 hours ahead of his clients in the United States.  I have been helping out with some accounting tasks which I sometimes do from our apartment and other times I go into their office.  At lunch, we go down to the cafeteria and have lunch with the students.  Then we usually walk laps around the neighborhood.  Then Darrel usually heads back to work…meetings happen for him in the late afternoon.  We have dinner in the cafeteria and then in the evenings take it easy or participate in events happening like Community meetings.

On Saturdays we have done some travel.  Then on Sundays we have attended church with Ben at an International Church in Lausanne.  English is spoken there but the people are from all different parts of the world.

This week the schools are finishing up for the quarter and the students are departing.  They will have two weeks off over Christmas time and then a new quarter and new schools start up the first week of January.
